Project 112

I photographed Project 112 in 2009 as part of a Romanian public-awareness campaign against domestic violence. The title refers to 112, Romania’s national emergency number. The series brings together 24 prominent Romanian men from film, music, television, sport, fashion and media. Each was placed in a staged visual scenario inspired by situations experienced by real victims of domestic abuse. By placing influential male public figures in the role of victims, the project reverses familiar power dynamics and asks viewers, particularly men, to confront abuse from the victim’s perspective. Between 2009 and 2014, Project 112 was exhibited in Bucharest, Iași, Timișoara, Cluj-Napoca and Suceava.
